Assam: Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam and a BJP leader, said on Friday that a political plot was behind the ‘leaking’ of the 26-second video showing two Kuki Zo women being sexually harassed by a group of Meitei men in violence-torn Manipur.

According to Sarma, rape occurrences are far more common in several opposition-ruled states than in BJP-ruled Manipur or other northeastern provinces, such as West Bengal, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh.

“Video was accessible, and the case (concerning the event) had long since been registered. A day before the start of the Parliamentary session, it was released. Therefore, certain political issues are involved,” he stated.
All four suspects have been placed in 11-day police custody in the Manipur viral-video case. On July 19, the horrifying footage of two women in Manipur being paraded nude and subjected to sexual abuse went public.
According to reports, the event happened on May 4, one day after ethnic fighting between Kukis and Meiteis broke out in the state. Since racial violence erupted, more than 160 people have died, and several more have been wounded.
